My sense is that AI’s knowledge and reasoning, in every domain, have already far surpassed mine. The only difference: I need a job and it doesn’t — it can only wait for someone to assign it work. I need to eat; it doesn’t. A person whose cognition matches AI — the world doesn’t contain one.
So the people anxious about “being replaced by AI” have the direction backwards. It lacks nothing except a job; you lack nothing except a tireless, unpaid, omniscient colleague. This isn’t competition. It’s employment — and the structure where the employer panics all day while the employee never complains is itself absurd.
Jensen Huang is right: AI already exceeds human level in logical reasoning across the board. But its autonomy is installed by people — give it a goal, tools, and memory, and it runs. However strong the engine, your foot is on the accelerator.
Someone will say: jobs that assign work are few; most people are the assigned. True — so the answer isn’t that everyone becomes a boss. It’s that “assigning work” becomes a craft: saying clearly what you want, and judging whether it got done. Those two things it cannot replace, because they are the source of demand. Whoever holds the source is the employer.
Don’t race the engine. Learn to drive.
